Tibet Tours
If you plan on taking a tour of Tibet from Nepal and you’re going to return to Nepal I strongly recommend you fly to l Lhasa then take the tour from Lhasa back to Kathmandu. Coming from Nepal to Lhasa involves rapid ascent to 4,000m which is dangerous and gives many people altitude sickness. That would make the tour less enjoyable.
Train Tickets out of Tibet
If you are travelling from Lhasa into China after the tour you’ll probably end up on a train to Chengdu or Beijing. You must have the tickets before you get the Tibetan visa (to prove you will be leaving) but most tour operators will charge a huge commission on the train tickets. The commission cost us £40 per ticket! You can buy the tickets online through agents (for a far smaller commission) and collect the train tickets from Lhasa train station.
